I’m a senior in high school now and I’m still undecided as to what I want to do with my life. I’ve been toying with the idea of a surgeon or medical research (stem cells and whatnot). But I’m not confident enough in either of those to set them as my goal in life. Are there any free strengths/career/abilities tests out there to give me a good idea of what I’m good at? Or, tell me how you chose your major, anything helpful in those areas would be great. The pressure is on now and i need to get my act together. Thanks

Also, I know I’m gonna need as many scholarships as i can get if I’m gonna do anything medical. But i have NO extracurricular activities and while I’m a good student, (GPA is around 3.6), I’m no valedictorian. What type of scholarships should I look for and where’s a good place to start?

okay. so. im 12 years old. When, i get older, i plan on going to a really good law school, like Harvord or Yale, and becoming a lawyer. Then going on to become a judge. I really wanna do that. But then i have dreams of becoming an actress. I need a career appitide test that like asks you questions on what you would enjoy doing like a multiple choice type thing. something free.

If you are one of those individuals who would like to venture into truck driving, you know that this is a serious job. Some people think that this work does not require too much responsibility. On the contrary, you are faced with meticulous working conditions when you work as a truck driver. Among the major specifications of this career is self-reliance and with a great sense of control. Additionally, you have to be independent since you will be spending much of your time away from your family. On the other hand, you have to be a responsible driver. You should not be one who thinks that he is driving a race car, going over speed limits and deviating from traffic laws. If you think that you can abide with the things that have been mentioned, you probably are adept at becoming a truck driver.

Other than possessing the right qualities, your age should also pass the requirement. You are eligible to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and work as a truck driver when you are at least eighteen years old. However, being 18 years old (and under 21) limits your qualifications to driving intrastate. If you are interested in driving to cross-country destinations, you must be more than twenty-one years old. These are the minimum age requirements since there are different specifications for various companies. For insurance companies, their advice to carriers is to hire applicants who are more than twenty-three years old. If you pass the age requirement, the next thing that you need to do is take the General Knowledge CDL Test. When you pass this exam, you will have taken the first step in acquiring your Commercial Driving License. This license allows you to drive large vehicles such as School Buses and other large commercial vehicles.

A qualified counselor can help put together a resume, practice interviewing techniques, administer assessment tests, or evaluate new career paths. The right coach can help a person evaluate jobs they’ve never considered that may allow them to use their current skills.

Changing Careers
For people who are looking for a whole new career, a counselor can help them decide whether they have the necessary skills or need to continue their education. Some people may find that the type of work they’ve been doing has become obsolete. Many unskilled workers have found themselves forced out of jobs that can be done by a computer or a machine. A good career counselor should listen to workers’ needs and assess their strengths and weaknesses to help them transition to a new career. That may mean directing clients to places they can learn about new technology or employment trends in fields that interest them.

The right coach can also redirect job-hunting efforts that have stalled or become unproductive.

Always being passed over for promotions is like going to a spring fling and never being asked to dance. It’s no fun! Workers who are having trouble advancing in their career may need some help figuring out exactly what they need to do differently to get noticed by higher ups. For some people it may be as simple as taking a few courses to learn necessary skills. Others may need advice from a career coach on how to dress, talk, or act more professionally.

Setting Career Goals
Counselors can also be helpful if people just want to make sure they are setting the right goals for their career. They may not be looking to change companies, but may be more concerned about protecting their future job security. A person who hasn’t bothered to keep abreast of changes in their industry, learn new skills, or network with influential peers are more likely to fall under the downsizing axe than someone who has worked to remain competitive.

Choosing the Right Counselor
It’s important for people to find a career counselor that fits their goals and is reputable. A good counselor should:

1. Disclose the terms of their service and fees upfront
2. Provide a copy of their ethical guidelines
3. Charge only for services provided
4. Let clients choose the services they want
5. Not make unrealistic promises.

They should also discuss what type of time commitment clients should expect to make to their counseling sessions and job-hunting strategies.

While career counselors can be helpful they may not have all the answers. They can help individuals assess their strengths and weaknesses to choose a career that fits their unique goals and needs. Like any other counseling relationship, it may take more than one try to find the right person. People looking for a career coach can check with their former employer, local job centers, universities, alumni groups, churches, and other organizations for recommendations.

When we were first looking at the online dating market, we did a lot of research into the different styles of dating websites to see which was the most effective. The only way to run a successful dating business is to have the best rate of matching people together, so we wanted to make sure that we chose the most effective way when we started.

The biggest ‘fad’ in online dating at the moment is the personality test, used by sites like eHarmony and chemistry.com, which claim to use ‘scientific’ personality testing to match you with someone you are likely to have a long term relationship with. However, they have never published any information to support the fact that these actually work! eHarmony claims that you have a 1 in 500 chances of marrying your matches, so if you were matched with two people a week it could take years before you met someone.

We spoke to people who had tried to sign up for eHarmony and chemistry.com. One thing we kept hearing was ‘I spent an hour filling in the questionnaire, and then it said that I wasn’t suitable for the website’ and ‘I spent an hour filling in the questionnaire and after I paid found I only had a couple of matches, with people I wasn’t interested in’. Time and time again we found that the majority of people weren’t satisfied with the service being provided by these questions, especially because they had to pay to message the people that they had been ‘scientifically matched’ with.

People look for different things in a partner. Some people want someone they can be comfortable with, some people want to be challenged on a date and some people like partying with their dates. An arbitrary personality test might try to account for this, but in the end is going to lend towards trying to match a certain kind of person. People told us that they wanted more chances to talk to people, more chances to see their photos and more chances to make sure for themselves that they thought that they would have fun, instead of having a hidden formula tell them what they would enjoy.

We did some research of our own, to try to find out if eHarmony had published any of their results in a scientific way, but all we could find were people criticizing the company for not letting anyone review their results in a proper scientific fashion. Yet they claim to be using the latest in ‘scientific matchmaking’.

I’m really really confused! I don’t know what I have to study in university and I have to apply soon! I have been studying science all my life but I don’t prove to be good at math and so I don’t want to study science further because of Math. Please help me! Everyone is telling me that i’m stupid but no one seems to understand my problem. I’ve spent so much time taking career tests, researching on courses and programs and now I really don’t know what to choose. I’m losing my self confidence and I’m losing my strength to face challenges. I just don’t know what to do. Please Help me!

I want to know whether a career assessment test would really help me find out my strengths and weakness and choose a career based on that self-awareness.

So I have ADD. I’m not taking the medication for it, for some personal reasons, and also because there’s a very little chance it would actually have an effect on me.

I believe it is the ADD, among other aspects of my personality, that is causing me to do badly in school. Now, I’m not an unintelligent person. I haven’t taken an IQ test recently, but I believe I am actually officially a ‘genius’, or something of the sort. Anyway, the point is, I’m very smart. However, I’m doing badly in school anyway, because I don’t, or maybe can’t, do my homework or concentrate in class properly. My grades are dropping majorly because of this. I have all seven periods, mostly advanced classes, and a lot of home stress, plus many extracurriculars. I find that I have too little time to do any of the things I want, resulting in one of the following: a) I slack off of my ‘have-to’ activities, such as homework, in order to focus on my hobbies; or b) I cannot focus properly on my homework, school, etc and/or perform poorly at the aforementioned because I am suffering from lack of creative exercise.

My therapist recently suggested I consider taking my GED–which she assured me I could probably pass right then and there, what with my intelligence–and pursuing my career interests, which are also my hobbies (that is, writing, art, and acting) instead. I’ve been seriously considering this since.

I know most colleges don’t accept GED’s, but I aim to go to the California Institute of the Arts, which is definitely my dream school (and yes, I have researched it thoroughly), and at CalArts, students are admitted ‘solely on the basis of artistic ability’. That is, educational restrictions would not, I believe, be an issue. So a GED wouldn’t be a problem. Every one of my interests is studiable at CalArts and I would be prepared for any and all of my chosen careers. Additionally, if I was no longer in high school, not only would I have my parents off my back for not doing my homework and getting grades below my capabilities, but I would have much more free time to hone my artistic, dramatic, and writing skills. Also I could get a full time rather than part time job, earning me more money so that I could buy my own car and pay for college independently, which I wish to do so that I don’t have any ties, financial or otherwise, to my parents (read: mother) when I am out of the house.

I am fairly sure this is the right decision, but I’m gonna need a lot of help convincing my parents to agree to this. Input, please?
